Overview

Atorvastatin is a medication that belongs to the class of statins. It is primarily used to lower cholesterol levels and reduce the risk of cardiovascular events such as heart attacks and strokes. Atorvastatin is an HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor, commonly known as a statin. It works by inhibiting an enzyme involved in the production of cholesterol in the liver. This leads to a decrease in LDL cholesterol ("bad" cholesterol) and an increase in HDL cholesterol ("good" cholesterol).
